~ Early History
The Nerubians are subspecies of Qiraji, an ancient race of Anthropod conquorers depicting back to the time before the Sundering. The Nerubians settled in the frozen tundras of what we today know as Nothrend, founding the underground city of Azjol Nerub in what is now known as Dragonblight. Azjol Nerub was one of three city states in the Azj'Aqir Empire the others being Ahn'Qiraj in Southwestern Kalimdor and the Mantids in Pandaria.
Lower casts of Nerubians curiously evolved into spider like Anthrpods unlike most other decendants of the Qiraji whilst the ruling and priest caste took on the guise of Scarabs. Like any other Anthropodic collectivist society the Nerubians practiced a caste system, a system that enthralled the lower masses to the rulers whims, with little to no chance of rising in station if one belongs to the lower castes.
Like all the other subraces of the AzjAqir Empire the denicens of Azjol Nerub were created by the fallen Old God C'thun to do his bidding in enslaving the entirety of Azeroth under his iron grip. Interestingly enough both the Nerubains and the Mantids did not de-evolve into a hive-mind society that returned to their primitive instincts and began behaving more like a brood than an imperialistic society like the denicens of Ahn'Qiraj. The Neurbeans adopted a feudal monarchy which they maintaned for thousands of years where they ruled Nothrend from their shaodwy tunels without dispute.
~ War of the Spider
When the being known as the Lich King arrived in Nothrend, sent forth to do the Legion's bidding the Nerubains responded with weapons in hand. The Nerubians possed the uncanny ability to not only be completely imune to Ner'Zhul's undead plauge but also his psionic domination abilities. Though the Nerubians were immune to the undead plauge in life, this ability did not carry over in death as the Lich King raised the fallen Nerubians warriors and inducted them into his vast army. As a testament to the Nerubian's tenacious and sturdy architecture the Lich King adopted the style into building his own fortresses, an example of this is the Scourge's flyng fortresses like the Ebon Hold and the dreaded fortress of the former High Lich Kelthuzzad; Naxxramas. Most noticeably the Lich King raised the greatest King of the Nerubian civilization had ever had. Anub'arrak.
~ Current time
Today not many of these instectal warriors remain, living that is, and the few that can still be found are very hostile attacking any outsider on sight.
